Pillar 2

It is proven that information and communication is vital for farmers to get timely information about agriculture to help produce quality production and know about the market. Information and communication strategy helps to disseminate information on ecological organic agriculture (EOA) to farmers and links the farmers with researchers, development agents through an integrated information delivery system. Therefore to enhance the farmers’ knowledge about agriculture information and communication technologies and channels should be widened by setting up different strategies to strengthen the capacity of farmers to acquire exchange and utilize information. In line with this, recording, documenting, disseminating and promoting best practices on ecological organic agriculture for all key stakeholders and farmers becomes very important and relevant.

With this objective, Pillar II, Information and Communication project aims to enhance the dissemination and sharing of information on Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) among the farming communities and links them to the aforementioned stakeholders through different communication tools by establishing farmers’ resource centers and equipping them with necessary information and communication materials. The pillar’s objective is to develop information and communication technology resource centers that disseminate and share information to farmers and farming communities.

The project interventions are expected to lead to strengthening the use of information and communication strategies to sensitize stakeholders and general public on value and practices of EOA in contributing to improve food security, household incomes, better nutrition, and environmental sustainability in Ethiopia.

This priority area will be the vehicle through which EOA reaches out to a vast majority of stakeholders on the continent. Working closely with all the priority areas of this initiative, a formidable brand for EOA will be developed, national information and communication strategies designed and information packaged in appropriate formats to be communicated to various audiences and stakeholders on the value and practices of EOA.
